Songkhla Port, the major international port and a logistics hub in southern Thailand. It is the only deep-sea port in the western Gulf of Thailand, serving as a major gateway for imports and exports for businesses in the eastern part of the lower southern region. Moreover, it connects the nearby provinces via waterways for the transport of goods.
This southern-based gateway to global trade acts as both a general-cargo and a refrigerated port. Most manufacturing and processing companies that frequently utilize this port are located in Songkhla Province (the main area for numerous processing plants), as well as in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat.
As the largest multi-purpose port in the western and southern Gulf of Thailand, its facility features three berths, a warehouse, and a container yard. The Port of Songkla drives the logistics ecosystem that connects manufacturing and processing factories in the southern region.
It is a significant engine that plays a vital role in fostering economic development, trade, exports, industry and transportation infrastructure—strategically supporting containerized Sea Freight to both Southeast Asian countries (ASEAN) and worldwide.
The agricultural and processed food sectors account for the vast majority of exports, including concentrated latex, rubber sheets, rubber products, processed seafoods, frozen foods, canned foods, processed agricultural products, halal foods, and other consumer goods shipped in containers.
With respect to imports, these will mainly consist of raw materials for production, processing, and export, as Songkhla and nearby provinces are global manufacturing and processing hubs (especially for seafood). The majority of imports are general goods, primarily for use in the region, bypassing Bangkok and Laem Chabang.
Located at the mouth of Songkhla Lake in Tambon Hua Sao, Singhanakhon District, Songkhla Province (33 kilometers from Hat Yai city). The Songkhla Port was completed in 1986, built as part of the 5th National Economic and Social Development Plan (1982-1986).
Currently, it is under the responsibility of the Treasury Department, which is working on development and improvement in collaboration with Chao Phraya International Port Co., Ltd., the company managing the project.
Tip: The deep-sea Port of Songkhla will be more relevant to shippers whose goods originate in the southern provinces than in Bangkok, the central or the eastern areas.
