Wireless area, also known as the Witthayu Road, the most exclusive location, has been said to be the Fifth Avenue of Bangkok. This prime business hub in the city’s heart (CBD) has an aura of the past blended with modern civilization. It is an ideal neighborhood amid an elegant atmosphere, unique, colourful, orderly, and peaceful. This district is also home to many high-income ex-pats.
The Boulevard is surrounded by old houses with classic colonial architecture, beautiful modern architecture, and distinctive skyscrapers. Interestingly, it houses a large group of corporations, the location of the most embassies in Thailand, and the source of many famous world-class hotels chains.
With the ever-increasing land prices, the landowners don’t want to sell them; therefore, they let them be long-term leases. The large mixed-use project at a mega project level is the new landmark in Bangkok in the city’s heart near the Lumpini MTR station.
The Wireless Road is a charming historical route. It was built during the reign of King Rama VI (During the 1920s) to connect Rama IV, Ploenchit, and Petchaburi Road. The road is 2.6 kilometers long, starting from Rama IV Road (Wireless Intersection) intersecting with Sarasin Road (Sarasin Intersection), Ploenchit Road (Ploenchit Intersection), then stretches across the Saen Saep Canal to meet Petchburi Road (Wireless Intersection – Phetchaburi).
This beautiful Boulevard started widely known when Mr. Lert Setthabutr was the pioneer and developed the area of Witthayu and Ploenchit. This area used to be a residence for the upper class. At present, we can still see historical landmarks include an Old Palace (Plaza Athenee Royal Le Meridien Hotel), Wireless Palace, Royal Athletics Association Polo Club, Lumphini Park (the first public park in Thailand). The origin of the road’s name is that the area south of Lumpini Park used to be Thailand’s first radio station.
Nowadays, this road is prosperous in every way, shady with sprawling Chamchuri trees providing shade for those roaming the streets. There are more than 22 embassies, including the American embassy, Japanese embassy, British embassy, Switzerland embassy, Italian embassy, Australian embassy, and New Zealand embassy.
The Bangkoks’s Fifth Avenue offers a wide range of high-class facilities, including some luxury hotels as a venue for ASEAN meetings, 5-star boutique hotels, one of Thailand’s most luxurious department stores, large shopping malls, world-famous brand stores, world-class corporate office buildings (especially in companies in banking, advertising, insurance), Grade A offices for rents, mixed-use real estate projects, comprehensive international health center.
Moreover, one can find high-end luxury condominiums, community malls, super-luxury restaurants, legendary old restaurants, Michelin-starred restaurants, stylish international cafes, freat atmosphere coffee shops, a luxury retail store, metropolitan police station, and yoga studio, art gallery, historical museum, and communities in various alleys.
Since it is connected to the main CBD areas such as Sathorn, Silom, Ploenchit, Chidlom, Ratchaprasong — Witthayu is, therefore, is one of the prime zones in Bangkok. In addition, there is Saphan Witthayu Pier near BTS Ploenchit and MRT Lumpini Station, making it very convenient to travel to work or live one life.
