Bangkok Port (Khlong Toei Port), Thailand’s first major international port, is the most essential and largest commercial port in the capital. It is located along the bank of Chao Phraya River, on Tha Ruea Road in Khlong Toei district, at the mouth of the Phra Khanong canal, opposite the Bang Krachao community.
In 1938, the Thai government founded the Bangkok Port Office and began the port construction at Khlong Toei — and in 1947, officially opened the port business. In May 1951, the government established the Port Authority of Thailand, a state enterprise under the Ministry of Transport, and received the business transfer from the Bangkok Port Office to operate.
Currently, Bangkok Port is the second-largest container port in the country, with complete facilities, and one of the busiest in the world.
A variety of ships come to dock here, including container ships, cargo ships, tourist ships, coastal ships, and other vessels — with a maximum weight of 12,000 DWT and a length not exceeding 172 meters.
However, the government has limited the number of containers to no more than 1.0 million TEU since 1996 to address congestion and traffic in the metropolis.
As the location is in the city’s heart; therefore, all types of products can be distributed to approximately 10-12 million consumers with ease and flexibility. And can support products from entrepreneurs and manufacturers throughout the metropolitan provinces and nearby areas: Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Chachoengsao, Ayutthaya, and Saraburi province.
There is a full-service center for transportation, export-and-import, connecting products to significant trade markets across Asia, with comprehensive transportation services via fast direct routes. It offers a wide variety of terminals, warehouses, and excellent logistics systems.
Also, a maritime service that links to Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi Province, an essential international deep-water port. The Bangkok Port’s network connects regions worldwide, whether ASEAN, Asia, Europe, America, etc.

In addition, within the port, there is a Bangkok customs office, line carriers (liners), e-services, shipping freight forwarders, terminal buildings, many import depots, international container vessel wharf, coastal vessel wharf, domestic wharf, international conventional vessel wharf, cruise ship dock, rail transport hub, export products department, security and fire center, export packing yard, cold storage containers, tug boats, etc.
